Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party

Our vision is to reduce the impact of serrated tussock on Victoria's economy, environment and communities

Identification of serrated tussock

Serrated tussock is a Weed of National Significance (WONS). It is regarded as one of the worst weeds in Australia because of its invasiveness, potential for spread, and economic and environmental impacts. It can spread rapidly, invading pastures, native grasslands and urban areas, and already covers more than a million hectares across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT. Find out more.

The Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party (VSTWP) began in 1995 in response to the community’s deep concern with the spread of serrated tussock, and a strategy for the control of serrated tussock in Victoria was produced.

The new brochure update features improved images, updates to the information on serrated tussock distribution and further information relevant to management techniques with proven success. The previous brochure was a national production, through the Weeds of National Significance (WONs) project, whereas the newly updated brochure was funded through the VSTWP and is more relevant to Victoria.

We have gathered more data on the recent Serrated Tussock surveys, extension and mapping, to put together our latest distribution map. There are some new sites in western and eastern Victoria, but a reduce density around the core. If we all continue to control our infestations, we can help reduce the impact.
