Building capacity at the Elmore Field Days 2024
The VSTWP spent three glorious spring days at the 2024 Elmore Field Days in early October 2024, setup in the Agriculture Victoria marque tent alongside project partners Biosecurity Victoria. The combination of excellent weather, and a team of relevant stakeholders, resulted in record visitation to the VSTWP site, with over 200 people coming to collect tailored information from the VSTWP volunteers over the three days.
A feature of the event was many landowners coming to see the live Serrated Tussock plants and learn the finer skills of how to best identify this noxious weed. Elmore is located in the region where serrated tussock is not yet established, so there was plenty of concern about the potential of this devastating weed to impact the grazing properties. The VSTWP was situated next to the compliance team at Agriculture Victoria, which was beneficial for both groups and many interested people visited both sites.
The VSTWP has been active in the central and western Victorian region, with Extension Officers working around the Ballan, Gisborne and Kilmore regions over the past decades. Large farming field days are ideal for community engagement, and many landowners were curious to see what the plants looked like and noted that they had seen signage many times over but were still unaware of what to look for.
The VSTWP would like to again thank Agriculture Victoria for organising the suitable marquee for the three days and ensuring all visitors had a great array of interesting sites to visit.
The next big VSTWP event will be the Kyneton Show on 16 November 2024. If you have an event you would like us to attend, please email us at: info@serratedtussock.com
