It is survey time! Data analysis to support invasive plant (weed) management

The CSIRO is keen to hear from land managers and landholders regarding weed management systems, via a short survey. The details are below, and it will take around 20 minutes to complete. The data is vital to improving the systems we use for managing weed treatments and surveillance.

Data analysis to support invasive plant (weed) management

Tell us what data analysis systems you need for more effective measurement, evaluation and reporting on weed management outcomes.

  • Do you contribute to activity-based reporting on weed management?
  • Are you frustrated with data collection tools that don’t connect with data analysis systems or planning, evaluation and reporting frameworks?
  • Do you find it challenging to evidence the benefits of weed management activities to planners, policy-makers or funders?
  • Have you managed to link data on weed management activities to outcomes achieved, and would like to share your experiences to help others?

Thank you for your interest in this survey on the need for data analysis solutions for invasive plant (weed) management. The information will help CSIRO understand the needs and opportunities for improved use of data and data analysis to resolve current challenges in the measurement, reporting and evaluation of the beneficial outcomes of weed management. The findings will inform CSIRO’s next steps in developing innovative solutions that meet the needs of weed management stakeholders.

The survey is being delivered by Dr Lyndal Hasselman from Earth Up Consulting as a service to, and on behalf of Dr Jens Froese and Dr Ben Gooden from the CSIRO’s Health and Biosecurity Business Unit.
The survey is seeking input from weed management stakeholders throughout Australia to find out about:
– current processes, practices and challenges related to monitoring, evaluating and reporting on weed management outcomes,
– improvements to current monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes to better meet currently stated or aspirational future objectives in weed management.

What will I be asked to do?

Completing the online survey may take 25 minutes. You are invited to answer a series of questions about weed management monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities, and the use of enabling data analysis tools. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you are free to withdraw by stopping the survey at any time. If you withdraw from the survey, any responses you have provided up to that point may be retained.
You may also skip any question that you do not wish to answer. If you wish to complete the survey, you will be asked to state your professional role in weed management (e.g., in field operations, private land manager, adviser, strategic planning etc.), type of organisation (e.g., Local government, regional NRM body, agricultural business, State government, research or community group) and State or Territory of work.
At the conclusion of the survey, participants will be given the option to provide their workplace email address to receive a summary of the survey results, and self-nominate their contact details (name, workplace affiliation, email address) if they would like to participate in a further in-depth interview with Earth Up Consulting on the need for enabling data analysis solutions to support outcomes-focused weed management. These details will be stored separately from your responses to the survey questions.
