VSTWP engage Hepburn staff members
VSTWP Community Engagement Officer, Ivan Carter, has been working with Hepburn Shire and City of Ballarat staff in best practice Serrated tussock management. The VSTWP have delivered information on how to identify, treat, prevent the spread and manage Serrated tussock using best practice principles and the latest research.
Staff from these local government agencies have received brochures and information on how to best identify serrated tussock. This is a different approach from the usual depot training with live plants for identification and has allowed staff to try their identification skills in the field. These two local government areas have emerging serrated tussock issues, so education is the key to preventing further spread.
“It has been great engaging with the rural councils and providing information to their key staff for capacity building”. “It is important that staff have time to practice their identification in the field and walk around testing their skills in their regions, using the information provided,” said Ivan Carter.
The VSTWP will train Macedon Shire staff next, which will be a 30-minute session of identification.
